About the Role
On behalf of a prominent, large diversified conglomerate, we are seeking a highly accomplished Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the finance function for their Ferro Silicon (Metals & Mining) Unit. This is a senior leadership position requiring a seasoned financial leader with deep expertise in metals and mining finance, strong operational acumen, and the ability to drive financial performance in a capital-intensive manufacturing environment.
The CFO will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations including production cost management, commodity pricing, raw material procurement finance, project capitalization, treasury, taxation, compliance, and financial reporting for the ferro silicon business unit. The role demands a hands-on leader who can partner with plant operations, supply chain, and corporate teams to ensure the financial health and profitability of the unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the complete finance function for the Ferro Silicon unit, including budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, and management reporting.
- Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the conglomerate's metals and mining business objectives.
- Oversee production cost accounting, including raw material costing (quartz, coke, iron ore), energy cost management, and conversion cost analysis.
- Drive cost optimization and margin improvement initiatives across mining, processing, and sales operations.
- Manage treasury operations, cash flow planning, working capital, and banking relationships for the unit.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and taxation requirements including GST, income tax, mining royalties, and environmental levies.
- Oversee financial due diligence for capacity expansion, new furnace installations, and mining lease acquisitions.
- Manage commodity price risk, foreign exchange exposure, and hedging strategies for ferro silicon sales.
- Present financial insights, business performance metrics, and strategic recommendations to the Board and senior leadership.
- Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing finance team across plant, mines, and corporate office.
- Establish robust internal controls, risk management frameworks, and audit processes for the unit.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with Ind AS and conglomerate reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with operations, procurement, and sales teams to ensure integrated financial oversight and business partnering.
Required Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant (CA) from ICAI – Mandatory.
- Minimum 10 years of post-qualification experience in finance leadership roles.
- Current designation at minimum Assistant General Manager (AGM) level or equivalent.
- Strong track record in cost accounting, financial planning, and business partnering within manufacturing or metals industries.
- Deep understanding of production cost management, procurement finance, and commodity business dynamics.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in ferroalloys, steel, metals, or heavy manufacturing industries.
- MBA in Finance or equivalent post-graduate qualification.
- Experience with ferro silicon or specialty alloy production economics.
- Familiarity with mining regulations, royalty structures, and environmental compliance in India.
- Track record of managing finance for units with turnover exceeding ?500 crore.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in cost accounting, marginal costing, and standard costing techniques.
- Expertise in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent) with focus on production modules.
- Strong command over MS Excel, financial modelling, and MIS reporting.
- In-depth knowledge of Indian taxation (GST, Income Tax), Ind AS, and corporate governance.
- Experience with commodity trading, hedging, and forex management.
